Zero carbon porcelain with eternity Chinese brand Franz Collection exhibits at World Expo ZED Pavilion

Shanghai’s first zero carbon building was officially open on May 12, 2010 in the World Expo. The new energy application technology related to power-saving and carbon emission became the focus of spotlights. When people walk into the Zero Carbon hall, what they see immediately is porcelain produced with green power which will be collected and cherished for generations. The themes of these art pieces include endangered species under protection such as blue-winged pitta and nipponia Nippon. The creator that records natural beauty on eternal porcelain is the Chinese brand in fine goods industry – Franz Collection.

On 5/12, the curator of ZED Shuo Chen and the CEO of Franz Collection Francis Chen held a press conference for its official exhibition“Zero carbon porcelain with eternity ”at ZED pavilion in the conference room. They replied to questions such as why Franz Collection decided to exhibit at the ZED pavilion instead of the national hall. Mr. Chen also shared the company’s experience from design and development to production and brand marketing. He also talked about how the company practices“benevolence” and “green” values in every detail and makes greatest efforts to protect natural beauty.

The curator said: Franz Collection is the best model for zero carbon practice in terms of business and products in the cultural creative industry. Although zero carbon is a hot issue, everyone focuses on technology but ignores how to realize the concept in arts and culture and bring a more joyful life to mankind. Franz Collection not only records the natural beauty through its artworks but also combines art and life. It even strives to protect the environment during the production process.

The CEO of Franz Collection Francis Chen pointed out that “Choosing porcelain as a medium to deliver cultural values is the first step of environmental protection, as the production of porcelain generates the least harmful gas (only after wood) and the product lifecycle is up to 20 years; a feature to which general plastic material cannot compare. Also, our designs focus on environmental issues. Endangered species under protection such as blue-winged pitta, nipponia Nippon, black-faced spoonbill and dendrobate become the themes of our creations. We use porcelain that can pass on for generations to record the natural beauty in an eternal way. For production, we use pb-free glaze, clean electric kilns and high quality natural gas to substitute fuels with high pollutions. We also developed special glaze and clay formula that enables us to lower the firming temperature by 195 degrees, reducing energy consumption by 30%. We planted hundreds of thousands of Taxus chinensis and red maples to balance the CO2 emission and eco-system, going from carbon reduction to zero carbon step by step.

The CEO hopes that through this exhibition people from all over the world can appreciate the beauty of porcelain from Chinese traditional culture. Also, through cultural communication and influence, the company is able to promote zero carbon and environmental protection concepts to the public with artwork that touch people and draw inspirations from nature.

Practice of new values “benevolence” and “green”, building of zero carbon art space

Franz Collection innovated design for exhibit space. Besides creating a beautiful and natural ambiance in Zero Carbon Hall and promoting the concept of low carbon, Franz Collection also shows the entire lifecycle of low carbon products, from environmental-friendly raw materials and packaging, clean energy, low temperature firing, purification of waste water, afforestation to balance of CO2 emission…etc. All these prove how the low carbon concept is promoted through the innovation in the world of art.

“See the blue-winged pittas flying in the bamboo woods and butterflies dancing in flowers”. Franz exhibits many art pieces that use endangered species as themes, hoping to advocate environmental protection awareness of the public so that people will make common efforts to practice the new values of “benevolence” and “green” in daily lives.

Franz Collection’s exhibition at ZED pavilion will be from May 1 to October 31 this year. During this period, Franz Collection will hold a wide variety of fascinating events in Zero Carbon Hall and on T stage to promote the concept of “reverence to God and love of all beings, perpetual heritage” by combining lifestyle aesthetics, fashion and zero carbon eco-system.

About ZED pavilion
The World Expo ZED Pavilion is China’s first public building of zero-carbon emission. The inspiration came from the world’s first zero carbon emission community BedZED. The building itself can utilize solar power, wind power, rain and bio-energy. The entire system is self-sufficient and can even become a small power plant that outputs power without consuming any fossil energy. It is considered as an ideal zero-carbon Utopia.
